Hartwood Acres is a beautiful public Allegheny County Park (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area) located in both Indiana Township (Fox Chapel School District) and Glenshaw (Hampton School District). The Saxonburg Blvd entrance into the park (Fox Chapel side) leads you directly up to the large, beautiful, historic mansion. This side of the park also includes a gorgeous stable house that sits a short distance from the mansion, as well as a beautiful covered pavillion set in the middle of a grove of trees. This side of the park hosts intimate events such as weddings and elopements as well as other events. The Middle Rd entrance to the park (Hampton side) takes you to a large concert stage where the park hosts live acts in the summer months and family events all year round. This side of the park also includes access to the large fenced in off-leash dog park.
There are miles of trails connecting the two sides of the park. The main route connecting the mansion side to the concert side of the park is paved and perfect for biking and casual walks – though there is a hill between both sides. There are also many “off road” type trails that weave and wind between beautiful mature trees, moss covered fallen trees, rock formations, and beautiful views. Trails are shared by walkers, runner, bikers, and dogs (on leash).
Hartwood Acres the perfect spot for an intimate wedding in a gorgeous setting or a beautiful engagement setting offering numerous backdrops all in one location.

Planning for your portraits at Hartwood Acres
If it’s possible, plan to have your engagement session or wedding portraits take place at Hartwood Acres just after dawn, after the park opens, or just before dusk, before the park closes. The mansion side of Hartwood Acres sits high atop a hill and there is often beautiful morning fog or haze all year round. If your portraits have to take place mid-day when the sun is high in the sky, don’t worry about those harsh shadows you hear about. Hartwood Acres is covered in mature trees and little spots to escape the sun but keep the same beautiful backdrops all over the park.
